Youri Tielemans is a 16-year-old Belgian footballer who plays for Anderlecht in the Jupiler League. He joined Anderlechts youth set up at the age of 13, and has then gone on to feature in every youth team at the club. On May 22nd 2013, he signed his first professional contract at the club having turned sixteen 15 days earlier. On July 28th 2013 he made his debut for the club coming on in the 26th minute for an injured Sacha Kljestan against KSC Lokeren. Youri was a standout performer that game. He looked extremely lively on the ball and showed great technique and composure.

Youri plays primarily in the centre of midfield, but has also played Attacking midfield and on the left wing previously during his youth. An extremely gifted player, Youri has fantastic vision and can make great short distance or long distance passes with ease. He also can cut open a defence with a great slicing pass for the attackers. He is very aware of what is going on around him allowing him to make interceptions and keep the play moving when necessary. He is a composed player and does not hesitate or panic when on the ball. He can pass the ball off either short distance or long distance and he can also dribble the ball and take on defenders. He is a very gutsy player not afraid to take a challenge and he has great ball control and speed to get around and past defenders. It is his fast burst of pace and technical ability on receiving the ball that allows him to skip past opponents and beat challenges when they come in. At only 16, during his debut for Anderlecht he gave an outstanding performance to show why he is considered one of Belgiums future gems. In terms of international matches, Youri has represented the Belgium Under-16 team and in a match against Romania under-16 he scored a fantastic hat-trick.

I have likened him to fellow Belgian Moussa Dembele and Michael Carrick. The reason I have done this is due to both his technical ability and ability to skip fast defenders like Moussa Dembele, as well as due to the range of his passing ability similar to Michael Carrick. His composure and awareness are also very similar to both players. He plays a very similar role as Moussa Dembele and as they are both from the same country we can even see a similar style with both the players.

Youri Tielemans is a player to look out for in the future. Currently I think he should stay at Anderlecht, improve his game and mature as a footballer. When that is complete, he will most definitely be ready for a move to a bigger club and a club where he can shine on the big stage and show his talent.

  1. Incredibly impressive to see a kid who just turned 16 sign a professional contract in whatever country it is. It is true that Belgium isn't at all a major football nation however I give this kid all my respect because turning professional at any sport and in any country at the age of 16 is no easy task.
I haven't heard of this kid yet but I def want to watch him play to see what he has to offer to his club in Belgium in what he has to offer, in the future, to major clubs worldwide in which he most likely will be going to.
As usual I can't let pass my chance of talking about the almighty Sport Club Corinthians Paulista who should be watching kids like this one closely. Talents like this is what makes a team gain strength on the field and off the field because obviously if this kid actually shows great football he is going to be negotiated at a very expensive price as we just saw neymar being negotiated with barca for example. Corinthians is great with marketing promotions and a player like this one would be great for stuff like that. He is young and he seems to be a sick player which is the perfect combination for a perfect marketing promotion. I hope that's what his Belgium club does with him.
Best of luck to this kid and I'm looking forward to hearing about him in the future.
