Saleh Gomaa, is
a 19-year-old Egyptian player who plays in the Egyptian Premier League ENPPI. He
was linked with a move to Manchester United, Sevilla and Benfica, and recently
underwent trials at Anderlecht and Borussia Dortmund. Egypt manager Mohammed
Saad said that there is an agreement between ENPPI and Dortmund for the German
Club to take the player of loan for the next season. He was quoted saying
“Saleh should travel to Germany after we finish our camp in Spain to complete
transfer” (KingFut). Gomaa in his recent trial impressed Dortmund manager
Jurgen Klopp, with Klopp urging him to follow in the footsteps of former
Egyptian International who played for Dortmund, Mohamed Zidan.
Saleh plays in
the center of midfield, with his best role being the playmaker for the team. He
has great technique, ball control and first touch. What makes Saleh’s game even
better is is great passing ability. Many have compared him to Xabi Alonso with
the way he can influence play through his passing. A player with great vision
and ability to pass with both feet Saleh has provided many assists to his
teammates in both club and international levels. Although I would not say that
he is similar to Alonso, his passing most definitely is up there. I have
likened him to be more like Yaya Toure as he plays a more defensive role for
his team coupled with forward bursting runs from midfield. Through his pace and
technique he can easily run past and beat defenders before passing or even
shooting. Saleh is not afraid to shoot from long distance that makes him a big
threat. Other great attributes that Saleh posseses are his positioning and
awareness of the ball when he does his defensive duties. Saleh always finds himself
in great positions where he is able to make interceptions and tackles that help
him win back the ball. His awareness and reading of the game allows him to stay
composed and quickly break providing the deadly balls to the attackers.
He is definitely
a great talent, and with a move to Dortmund looking possible, we may see him
play against the top European teams and impress with talent he possesses.
