Eyal Golasa is a 21-year-old Israeli Midfielder who plays
for Maccabi Haifa in the Israeli Premier League. He is a player who can control
the midfield and string passes that assist his team in scoring. At the age of
14 after trials at Spurs and PSG, Golasa was due a move to the French club,
however his inability to get a work permit/visa halted the move. In February
2010 he had agreed a deal with Lazio to move there, however due to bureaucratic
issues the move was put on hold. Golasa is a very strong player physically who
is not afraid of hard tackles. His best role is as a playmaker in the centre of
midfield. His deft first touches, great passing and vision makes Golasa is a
perfect center midfielder to have in your team. His ablity to play box-to-box
is another one of his greatest assets. With a very high level of fitness Golasa
can play for the full 90 minutes and not get extremely fatigued.
Golasa has had experience playing in Europe with Maccabi Haifa
in the Champions League qualification rounds and group stages. This
experience has helped him mature as a player and even brought out a great
performance against FK Aktobe. A player who is not afraid to shoot from
distance as well as his ablity to use both feet while playing makes him a
perfect utility midfield player to have. Golasa likes making darting runs
towards the goal and is not afraid to shoot. Although his best position is
Attacking Midfield, he can also play a more central/defensive role in midfield
due to his high level of fitness and through playing with a high level of
intensity. His weakness, however, is the power and accuracy by which he shoots.
Due to his inclinations to shoot from out of the box, many of his shots are
easily saved or miss the target.
If there were a term box-box-playmaker Golasa would fit this
criteria. It is because of this that I have likened him to both Mesut Ozil and
Yaya Toure. The similarity with Toure comes with his fitness and ablity to make
charging runs towards goal, and not being afraid to take long distance shots.
The similarities he has with Ozil are more technical. His vision, his first
touch and his passing make the way he plays very similar to Ozil. A perfect
midfielder, it is a surprise that there are not that many European Clubs in for
him since 2010, but it is only a matter of time before a European Club picks
him up. He has many years left ahead of him, maybe a stepping-stone is required
to get his career to the level it can be. Holland or Portugal could be a good
destination for Golasa to hone his skills before moving to one of Europe’s
biggest clubs.
